Yuhushiella deserti gen. nov., sp. nov., a new member of the suborder Pseudonocardineae

Abstract: A thermotolerant, Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, sporangium-forming actinomycete, strain RA45T, was isolated from a desert region in Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region, north-western China. Comparative analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence and phenotypic characterization revealed that strain RA45T belonged phylogenetically to the family Pseudonocardiaceae of the suborder Pseudonocardineae. Strain RA45T showed more than 5 % 16S rRNA gene sequence divergence from recognized species of genera in the family Pseudono… Show more

“…Emerging new cultivating techniques, culture-independent methods by expressing gene clusters in model heterologous hosts, and diligent effort and innovative approaches in novel microbial strain collection, identification, and classification have started to permit access to these previously inaccessible natural product resources. We strive for isolation of novel strains on selective media, because novel microbes harbored novel genes and they are more likely to produce novel metabolites Wang et al 2009;Dai et al 2009;Mao et al 2010;Tang et al 2011).…”

“…Unusual and underexplored habitats, such as those found in desert and marine ecosystems, are rich sources of novel filamentous actinomycetes some of which have a capacity to produce interesting new natural products, notably antibiotics (Goodfellow and Fiedler 2010;Mao et al 2011). One of the least explored biomes is the Atacama Desert in northwest Chile where conditions have been considered to be too extreme for any sort of life due to low concentrations of organic compounds, high salinity, the presence of inorganic oxidants and high levels of UV radiation.…”
