ZEB1 induced‐upregulation of long noncoding RNA ZEB1‐AS1 facilitates the progression of triple negative breast cancer by binding with ELAVL1 to maintain the stability of ZEB1 mRNA

Abstract: Triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC) is one of the malignant type of breast cancer. Previous study indicated that long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) ZEB1‐AS1 was associated with the progression of several cancers. However, its underlying molecular mechanism in TNBC remains to be elucidated. In this study, ZEB1‐AS1 expression was boosted in TNBC tissues and cell lines according to reverse transcription‐quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT‐qPCR). Inhibition of ZEB1‐AS1 suppressed cell proliferation, migration, in… Show more

“…LncRNAs are a class of noncoding RNAs longer than 200 nucleotides without coding potential that are involved in the regulation of various diseases, including cancer [5,6]. Recently, lncRNAs have been recognized to play important roles in the genesis and progression of TNBC [7][8][9]. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms associated with this process require further elucidation.…”

“…It is associated with several functional roles, including EMT, proliferation, migration, invasion, and metastasis by regulating multiple genes including miR-200s [ 195 ]. ZEB1-AS1 was upregulated in TNBC cell lines and tumors and stabilized ZEB1 mRNA by binding with ELAVL1 ( ELAV1 , ELAV-like RNA binding protein 1), forming a feedback loop to promote TNBC progression [ 196 ]. ZEB1-AS1 interacts with miR-505-3p ( Figure 11 ).…”

“…Zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) is a crucial member of the zinc finger-homeodomain transcription factor family, originally identified as a binding protein of the lens-specific δ1-crystalline enhancer and is a pivotal transcription factor in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process 33 . ZEB1 also plays a vital role in embryonic development and cancer progression, including breast cancer progression 34 , 35 . However, the exact mechanism beneath ZEB1 activation in HCC remains vague.…”
