ZIC2 is downregulated and represses tumor growth via the regulation of STAT3 in breast cancer

Abstract: Although early detection and systemic therapies have improved the diagnosis and clinical cure rate of breast cancer, breast cancer remains the most frequently occurring malignant cancer in women due to a lack of sufficiently effective treatments. Thus, to develop potential targeted therapies and thus benefit more patients, it is helpful to understand how cancer cells work. ZIC family members have been shown to play important roles in neural development and carcinogenesis. In our study, we found that ZIC2 is do… Show more

“…Cheng et al have shown that CAFs may recruit neutrophils and induce PD-L1 + neutrophils through the IL-6 -STAT3 pathway which facilitates immune suppression in hepatocellular carcinoma (297). STAT3 is known to affect tumor growth and invasion and the JAK/STAT3 pathway is activated in various cancer types (298)(299)(300). CAFs were recently shown to be able to induce the differentiation of recruited monocytes into programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) expressing M2-like macrophages, instead of M1 macrophages; in addition to recruiting those monocytes (15).…”

“…MiR‐643 enhances the sensitivity of breast cancer cells into radiotherapy via STAT3 inhibition (Yang et al, 2020). Furthermore, by down‐regulation of STAT3 signaling pathway, ZIC2 suppresses colony formation of breast cancer cells and is associated with favorable prognosis (Liu et al, 2020). A novel derivative of CT, known as KYZ3 has demonstrated great potential in inhibition of triple negative breast cancer cells.…”

“…cancer and exerts a tumor suppressor effect by regulating STAT3 (Liu et al, 2020). Additionally, ZIC2 is used to inhibit breast cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion as it is a target gene of miR-1284 (Zhang et al, 2019).…”
