ZIF‐11/Matrimid® mixed matrix membranes for efficient CO2, CH4, and H2 separations

Abstract: Zeolitic imidazolate framework ZIF‐11 particles were prepared and mixed with Matrimid® 5218 polyimide, from 0 to 40 wt. % loadings. The ZIF‐11 particles and the Matrimid® 5218 polyimide matrix were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X‐Ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Surface and cross‐sectional scanning electron microscopy images of the mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) were taken to examin… Show more

“…Comparison of CO 2 /CH 4 separation performances with the 1991 and 2008 Robeson upper bounds. All data points show different MOF-based MMM with 6FDA-ODA or Matrimid polyimide (*taken from refs , and , , respectively) as the polymeric phase tested at P = 1–10 bar and T = 25–35 °C (1 Barrer = 1 × 10 –10 cm 3 (STP) cm/cm 2 s cmHg).…”

“…In terms of adsorption and membrane based separation of gas mixtures, ZIFs are mainly considered for separation of several gas mixtures, e.g., CO2/CH4, CO2/CO, CO2 /H2, CH4 /H2, and CO2/N2 [5][6][7][8][9]. Although, their exceptionally high performance of gas separation and purification has been especially validated for CO2 , CH4 , and H2 gas mixtures by many experimental and theoretical works [10,13], we know very little about potential of the ZIFs for separation of noble gas mixtures, such as Xe/Ar and Xe/Kr.…”
