Zinc Isotope Effects Observed by Liquid Chromatography with Benzo-15-Crown-5 Resin

Abstract: The chromatographic fractionation in Zn isotopes was performed on the synthesized benzo-15-crown-5 resin at 313 and 343 K. The lighter isotopes were found enriched in the resin phase. The isotope fractionation coefficients (") were 3. Zn isotopic pairs at 313 and 343 K, respectively. They reflected mass-dependence among the Zn isotopes at each operated temperature but did not show 1=T 2 -temperature proportionality. The temperature effects of the composition of Zn species both in the solution phase and in the … Show more

“…23) Some properties of the silica beads and the resin are summarized in Table 1. We previously observed zinc isotope effects with the B15C5 resin, 24,25) and we expected that it would also be effective for observing strontium isotope effects. The dicyclohexano-18-crown-6 ether (DC18C6) resin (Eichrom Technologies Co. Ltd. Sr resin) was also used as column packing material.…”

“…14) As regard to zinc isotope separation, cation ion exchange chromatography utilizing complex formation with EDTA had yielded a small equilibrium separation factor. 15,16) The liquid-liquid extraction method with a crown ether exhibited a larger separation factor. 11) The single-stage liquid-liquid extraction was a simple method, and for the practical enrichment of isotopes, a multistage system was necessary.…”

“…Recently, a number of papers on the benzo-15-crown-5 resin for application to the zinc isotope separation by chromatography have been published. [14][15][16][17][18] In the present work, chromatography was performed on the synthesized benzo crown resin. This is the first report on zinc isotope chromatographic fractionation for both frontal and rear bands, and the emphasis was placed on the separation coefficient observed at both frontal and rear bands during the separation process.…”
