ZnO nanostructure synthesis for the photocatalytic degradation of azo dye methyl orange from aqueous solutions utilizing activated carbon

Abstract: In this study, zinc acetate (as a precursor) and activated carbon carboxylic acid derivative were used to create the nanostructure of zinc oxide (ZnO) as a matrix. The carboxylic acid derivative was produced by modifying the oxidized activated carbon with nitric acid (AC-COOH). The modified activated carbon's surface was then impregnated with zinc to load it. By using BET, XRD, and SEM to characterize the ZnO nanostructure, it was discovered that it was composed of nanoparticles with a surface area capacity of… Show more

“…The adsorption capability of some reactive dyes by activated carbon is known to be relatively poor. The sewage treatment process utilizing clay-basic [21], AC-ZnO nanos tructure [22], cotton [23], Ultraviolet-activated sodium perborate [24], halloysite nanotubes [25], electrospun nanofiber mat [26], chitosan [27], and natural zeolite-basic [18] has thus been the subject of Previous s tudies. Because of their large surface area and molecular sieve composition, Clay-based materials are efficient organic cation pollutant adsorbents [3].…”

“…The production of textiles, leather tanning, cosmetics, paper, food processing, and pharmaceuticals are jus t a few indus tries whose effluents frequently contain dyes [1]. They have long been a source of ecological worry because of their toxic effects, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and teratogenicity [2].…”

“…Activated carbon (AC), as one of the famous and applicable adsorbents, has been extensively used for the removal of dye molecules. This fact is due to exceptional properties of AC like simple and easy preparation, cost-effectiveness, sound surface area, and good adsorption capacity [11,12]. To improve the adsorption capacity and the removal performance of AC, preparing its composites can be an ideal method.…”
