Zooplankton Productivity Evaluation of Lentic and Lotic Ecosystem

Abstract: The present study reveals the correlation of zooplankton productivity of lotic and lentic water ecosystem. The biological rhythms are useful tool to determine the zooplankton production. Planktons enrich the trophic level of lentic and lotic ecosystems. The relationship of primary productivity of any aquatic ecosystem depends on the biological biodiversity. Estimation of zooloplankton productivity of any water system helps to analyse its richness of species as biological population which are sustainable in it … Show more

“…The research was performed during the summer season 2022 (August) on the Bolshoi and Malyy Shantar islands, as well as on the nearby continental areas along the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk, Ongachan Bay area, and Wrangel Cape area (Figure 1A). The analyzed water sources were classified into five major types based on their location and hydrological or hydrochemical features [43][44][45][46][47][48][49]. Among these were continental lotic (running waters, such as rivers and streams), continental lentic freshwaters (freshwater lakes and ponds), insular lotic, insular lentic freshwaters, and brackish water bodies.…”

“…We highlight the atmosphere and photosynthesis as the primary sources of oxygen for water, oxygen being one of the most important gases in the dynamics and characterization of aquatic ecosystems. On the other hand, there is the reduction and solubility of dissolved oxygen in water by the decomposition of organic matter (oxidation), losses to the atmosphere, respiration of aquatic organisms, and oxidation of metal ions [1,32,43,45,46].…”

“…Therefore, it depends on the existing dissolved oxygen, in which levels ideal for nitrification of bacteria range from 4 to 8 mg/L [43]. In the dynamics of tropical lakes, high temperature is a fundamental factor; it directly influences vital processes in lake ecosystems such as primary productivity and decomposition of organic matter, so there is intense reproduction of phytoplanktonic organisms, and, consequently, intense absorption of dissolved nutrients [1,32,[43][44][45][46]. The recycling of nutrients in tropical lakes, as well as the high rate of decomposition of organic debris, comes from the positive effect of high temperature on the metabolism of microorganisms, causing most of the debris produced in the euphotic zone to be decomposed and reabsorbed there.…”

“…In the waters, the existence of plankton has a very important role and is needed by other living things. Because considering this organism has an important role as a primary producer in the waters, knowing the level of fertility of the waters and as an indicator in determining a fishing area (Eramma et al 2022).…”
