“…A maximum of 30% of GVL yield was obtained after 24 h. In the case of IPL, low yields were obtained, regardless of the reaction time. Then, it seems that using the Zr-containing catalysts, the conversion of FE into IPL could be the limiting step in the transformation of FF into GVL, as it was reported in other previous studies …”

“…As it was demonstrated in previous studies carried out with sepiolite as a support, the presence of BAS was hardly detected even though GVL was formed . It indicates that a high proportion of BAS, although desirable, could not be strictly necessary to carry out the transformation of FF in GVL in one pot.…”

“…The cascade reaction of GVL prepared by FUR using alcohol as the hydrogen donor involves multiple reaction processes, such as aldehyde reduction, ring opening/rearrangement, carbonyl reduction, and internal esterification. Lewis acid sites (LAS) are responsible for the hydrogenation of FUR and LA/LAE, while the Brønsted acid site (BAS) is needed for ring opening and internal esterification. Thereafter, the tandem reaction of FUR to GVL catalyzed by mixed catalysts attracted wide attention. , However, the active sites for catalyzing different steps (LAS catalyzed and BAS catalyzed) are located on independent catalysts, resulting in low activity and GVL yield. Thus, bifunctional catalysts with both LAS and BAS have been synthesized and applied to the FUR to GVL reaction.…”
