ZrO2 Nano-coating on Nano-particles by Liquid Phase Deposition

Abstract: Tetragonal ZrO 2 was coated on the SiO 2 nanoparticles by liquid phase deposition. In this study, the liquid phase deposition was carried out using the boric acid as the fluoride ion scavengers. The amount of the nanocoated ZrO 2 was controlled by the amount of the fluoride ion scavengers. As a result, the highest yield of the ZrO 2 nanocoating process was attained at [HBO 3 ]/[Zr] = 20.0 condition. After the annealing at 900°C for 1 hour, the tetragonal ZrO 2 was confirmed by XRD and Raman analysis. Namely, t… Show more

“…Therefore, ceramic nanocoatings on primary particles are widely studied. Moreover, ceramic nanocoatings are attempted by wet-processing in many cases such as liquid phase deposition 11) and solgel processing. 1),12) Many research reports describe results achieved for SiO 2 nano-coating on primary nanoparticles because Si alkoxide has moderate hydrolysis and polycondensation reactions, which lead to homogeneous coatings.…”
