“…Therefore, an agreement between the above mentioned experimental and calculated χ-values can be obtained considering the PEG-free SiO 2 sample as a mixture of two components (SiO 2 and perfect agreement with the one reported in literature [47]). With the decrease of the SiO 2 /PEG ratio, the experimental χ-values tend towards the expected ones.…”

“…The experimental |χ|-values obtained at room temperature from the slope of the MvsH curves for both the studied hybrid systems (SiO 2 /PEG and ZrO 2 /PCL) are compared with the values recorded for SiO 2 /PCL and ZrO 2 /PEG materials and reported in the previous works [46,47] ( figure 11). …”

“…Its shift to lower wave numbers, together with the shape change of the broadband at 3440 cm -1 , characteristic of O-H groups, suggests the existence of hydrogen bonds between the C=O of the polymer and the -OH groups of the inorganic component. This hypothesis is supported by many studies showing the ability of the -OH groups on sol-gel matrices to interact with organic substances by means of H-bonds [40][41][42][43].…”

“…Both static and CP-MAS 13 C NMR and FT-IR were used to investigate the interactions that occur in numerous hybrids nanocomposite materials between different polimers and several inorganic matrices (e.g. CaCO 3 [23] , CaO and/or SiO 2 [24][25][26][27][28][29] , TiO 2 [30,31] , ZrO 2 [24,[32][33][34][35] ). Zhang et al 19 added to the uncalcined-kaolinite geopolymeric matrix some organic polymers (1 wt %) characterized by carboxyl or amino groups or even hydroxide radicals; in particular, they used polyacrylic acid, sodium polyacrylate, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol and polyacrylamide, increasing the compressive strength of the mere inorganic polymer up to 29%; still larger increases were obtained for bending, up to about 65%, but in any case that resistance is characterized by very low values.…”
