Abstract: The reaction of malic acid with chromotropic acid was recognized as Pechnzann-condensation with the intermediary formed formylacetic acid. The reaction product was compared with model substances from a-naphthol, @-naphthol and 1,s-dihydroxynaphthalene and malic acid.

Es wurde 1,8-DihydroxynaphthaIin mit Xpfelsaure bzw. Maleinsaure und mit Acetessigester in Schwefelsaure umgesetzt, wobei stets Benzocumarin-und Cumarino-cumarin-Derivate entstanden, die einzeln isoliert und charakterisiert wurden.in dem 14-Hydroxy-7,8-benzocumarin-5,12-disulfonsaures Natrium und 7,8,7',8'-Cumarinocumarin-5,5'-disulfonsaures Natrium im Verhaltnis 4 zu 1 vorlagen.Bei der Umsetzung von Natriumchromotropat mit Xpfelsaure entstand ein Substanzgemisch, Reaction of Malic Acid with Chromotropic Acid 1,8-Dihydroxynaphthalene reacted with malic acid or maleic acid and with ethyl acetoacetate in sulphuric acid to benco-coumarin-and coumarino-coumarinderivatives which were isolated and characterized.In the reactionof sodium chromotropate with malic acid a mixtureof substances was formed which contained the sodium salts of 14-hydroxy-7, 8-benzocoumarin-5, 12disulphonic acid and 7,8,7',8'-coumarino-coumarin-5,5'-disulphonic acid in a ratio of 4 to 1.
