This is a review of significant studies in human biometeorology published during the 1970's. The discipline is first defined, and it is noted that human biometeorology overlaps other fields, such as environmental physiology and epidemiology, but is unique in that it emphasizes the role of the atmosphere. Separate sections are devoted to general works, characterization of the thermal environment, biometeorological indices, cold stress, mortality and morbidity, and to weather and behavior, attitude, mood, and performance (psychological responses to weather). Areas which need special emphasis are noted in the concluding remarks.
