α′-Corrections and de Sitter vacua - A mirage?

Abstract: In this work we analyze the role of α -corrections to type IIB orientifold compactifications in Kähler moduli stabilization and inflation. In particular, we propose a model independent scenario to achieve non-supersymmetric Minkowski and de Sitter vacua for geometric backgrounds with positive Euler-characteristic and generic number of Kähler moduli. The vacua are obtained by a tuning of the flux superpotential. Moreover, in the one-modulus case we argue for a mechanisms to achieve model independent slow-roll.

“…which relates the two limits: indeed, for a reasonable N s ∼ O(1), we deduce g s ∼ (l s /L ) p−3 and N 2 f (l s /L ) 4 , the latter indicating a strong internal hierarchy. 7 With such values, every requirement and equations considered so far would be consistent.…”

“…This solvmanifold is very likely to be compact: few constraints have to be imposed on the structure constants for it to admit a lattice, but given our conventions make the radii enter the structure constants, there is probably enough freedom to satisfy the (lattice) quantization conditions. 4 It is easy to verify that (3.41) is satisfied, in particular F 2 = − f 3 h/F 0 e 3 ∧ e 6 . We then pick the following values which allow to satisfy the above, in particular (3.40) and (3.36) with an appropriate λ value…”

“…It will be interesting to see if some series that incorporates non-perturbative correction(s) can actually solve the ODE so that the leading perturbative part is consistent with the leading SUGRA result (2.12). It will be very interesting if this turns out to be true: this would mean that non-perturbative α corrections could at least in principle produce de Sitter solutions 18 .…”

“…4 For efforts to explicitly construct de Sitter in string theory using α -effects and/or higher derivative corrections, see eg. [18,19]. 5 This means that if a de Sitter exists, it will have to be non-perturbative [20,21] in α .…”
