β-adrenergic receptor subtype transcripts in porcine adipose tissue

Abstract: Expression of transcripts for beta 1-, beta 2-, and beta 3-adrenergic receptors (beta 1-AR, beta 2-AR, and beta 3-AR, respectively) was investigated in porcine tissues. Northern blot analysis of total RNA indicated hybridization of the rat beta 1-AR probe to transcripts of approximately 3.0-kb in heart and lung and 2.9-kb in perirenal, omental, and subcutaneous adipose tissue. Hybridization of the hamster beta 2-AR probe with total RNA revealed transcripts of approximately 1.8-kb in the heart, 2.0-kb in the lu… Show more

“…A possible explanation may be differences in the sensitivity to the f}-adrenergic agonist, perhaps related to receptor sensitivity or number such as that described recently for pig fat depots by McNeel and Mersmann (1995). These conclusions were evident on the basis of actual data recorded for animals or calculated in comparison with the initial slaughter group.…”

“…The 2.0 kb ADRB3 transcript in the bovine brown adipose tissue (PietriRouxel et al, 1995), and two transcripts of 2.2 and 1.9 kb in porcine subcutaneous fat (McNeel and Mersmann, 1995) were detected by Northern blotting. The mRNA expressed in the adipose tissue (Sumner and McNamara, 2007), mammary gland (Inderwies et al, 2003), gastrointestinal tracts including the cecum, ileum, colon and abomasum (Meylan et al, 2004;Kobel et al, 2006) and in the liver (Carron et al, 2005) of cattle through real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or ligand binding assay.…”

“…For example, in pigs skeletal muscle has more BAR2 than BAR1 whilst in adipose tissue it is the reverse (Liang & Mills, 2002). BAR3 are thought to be present on porcine adipocytes (McNeel & Mersmann, 1995).…”
