If certain preconditions are met, the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) kinetic equation is exactly accurate for nucleation and growth reactions with linear growth and is, at least, a good approximation for nucleation and growth reactions with parabolic growth. These preconditions include randomly distributed product phases, isotropic growth and constant equilibrium state. Mechanisms causing deviations from these preconditions include: capillarity effect, vacancy annihilation, blocking due to anisotropic growth. It is shown that deviations lead to a modification of the overall transformation, which can be approximated well by a single equation:

The microstructural features of variable polarity plasma arc welded Al-Cu-Mg 2024-T351 with 2319 filler have been studied by TEM, SEM and DSC. Fusion zone, partial melting zone, resolutionising zone, overageing (for S phase), peak ageing (for S phase) and under ageing zones (for S phase) have been identified. The Ω phase has been observed between re-solutionising zone and peak ageing zone. The hardness profile contains two peaks. The microstructure development, and resulting hardness and yield strength profiles are modelled using a model which combines primary precipitation, resolution, partial/full melting and resolidification (Scheil type) and reprecipitation, in a two precipitate -two mechanism approach. Hardness profiles and microstructures are accurately predicted. The hardness peak in the re-solutionising zone is due to re-solutionising and subsequent Cu-Mg co-cluster formation; and the second hardness peak is caused by S phase strengthening.

Warmauslagerungsfähige Aluminiumlegierungen bieten den Vorteil, dass sie in ihrer Festigkeit in einem sehr weiten Bereich gezielt eingestellt werden können. Dies setzt voraus, dass die Prozesstemperaturen und -zeiten der Warmauslagerung sehr genau eingehalten werden. Die hier vorgestellten Arbeiten zielen auf die Qualifizierung zerstörungsfreier Messmethoden ab, mit denen der Warmauslagerungszustand Prozessbegleitend sehr schnell ermittelt werden kann. Somit können bereits während der Durchführung der Warmauslagerung Fehler im Prozess detektiert werden und im Sinne der Qualitätssicherung eine Verbesserung der Kontrollmechanismen erzielt werden. Die Untersuchungen wurden mittels Leitfähigkeits-, Wirbelstrom-und Resonanz-Frequenz-Messungen durchgeführt. Insbesondere die Ergebnisse der Wirbelstrom-und Resonanz-FrequenzMessungen lassen das hohe Potenzial zerstörungsfrei arbeitender Verfahren zur online Kontrolle des Warmauslagerungszustandes erkennen.Schlüsselwörter: Strangpressen / Warmauslagern / Aluminium / zerstörungsfreie Prüfung / Heat treatable aluminium alloys offer the advantage that their strength can be specifically adjusted within a very broad range. This presupposes that the age-hardening's process temperatures and durations are very precisely maintained. The work presented here aims to qualify non-destructive testing methods with which the age-hardening condition can be very rapidly determined during the actual process.Thus, process defects can be readily detected during the age-hardening procedure and, within the scope of a quality assurance, an improvement of the control mechanisms can be obtained. The investigations were carried out by means of conductivity, eddycurrent and resonance-frequency measurements. The results of the eddy-current and resonancefrequency measurements in particular allow the enormous potential of non-destructive procedures to be realised for the online control of the age-hardening condition.
