“…31 β-Elemene was also found to reverse epithelialmesenchymal transition (EMT) in MDR gastric cancer cells by inhibiting the transcription factors ZEB1 and ZEB2 that contribute to antitumor metastatic activities. 25 Moreover, the radiation-induced HIF1α and peroxiredoxin-1 (Prx-1) expression were significantly suppressed by β-elemene, which reversed the radio-resistance of the human lung cancer. 27,28 Besides β-elemene, curcumol, diterpenoid C and tetrahydrocurcumin, identified from Curcumae radix, were also reported to demonstrate anticancer effects in vitro and in vivo.…”

“…34 Recent studies have reported that β‐elemene significantly inhibited the migration and invasive capacity of BGC823, SGC7901 and multidrug resistant (MDR) SGC7901/ADR gastric cancer cells, TE-1 and KYSE-150 esophageal cancer cells in vitro and inhibited the capacity of BGC823 cells to diffuse peritoneally and metastasize in vivo. 24,25,31 Moreover, the radio sensitivity of cancers, such as glioblastoma multiforme U87-MG, T98G, and U251 cells, 32 melanoma A375 cells, 44 and A549 lung adenocarcinoma xenograft 27,28 were also reported to be significantly enhanced by β-elemene.…”

“…Similarly, it was indicated that β‐element, an anti‐tumor natural agent of traditional Chinese herbal medicine, played an anti‐metastatic role in MDR gastric cancer by suppressing the expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)2 and MMP9 following suppression of the EGFR–ERK/AKT pathways mediated by Cbl‐b up‐regulation. It was found that β‐element can suppress miR‐1323 and subsequent up‐regulate Cbl‐b expression, which paves the way to EGFR ubiquitination and degradation by Cbl‐b [153]. Consequently, these data clearly illustrate the Cbl‐b role in the prevention of tumor metastasis, mainly through keeping the epithelial phenotype in MDR breast and gastric cancer cells [150,152].…”

“…β-Elemene extracted from Chinese herbal medicine showed a good effect on the inhibition of metastasis in nude mice. Deng et al [ 67 ] confirmed that β-elemene suppressed miR-1323 and up-regulated casitas B lymphoma-b (Cbl-b) expression to achieve these results.…”
