β,β′‐Bipyrrole Fusion‐Driven cis‐Bimetallic Complexation in Isomeric Porphyrin

Abstract: An unprecedented cis‐bimetallic complex of dinaphthoporphycene (DNP), namely [Pd2(μ‐DNP)(μ‐OAc)2], is reported. The most striking feature of this complex is that two palladiums coordinate to the macrocycle on the same side and are closely held together (PdPd: 2.67 Å) by two bridging acetate ligands exhibiting significant metal–metal bonding interaction (bond order 0.18 evaluated by NBO analysis). Interestingly, replacing acetate with acetylacetonate (acac) could stabilize an unusual mono‐palladium complex of … Show more

“…Anand and co-workers have been involved in the synthesis of large porphyrin-like macrocycles with a view to studying concepts such as aromaticity and anti-aromaticity (Panchal et al, 2016), (Gopalakrishna et al, 2014). Panda and co-workers have been working on various porphyrin-based macrocycles including isomeric porphyrins (Sarma et al, 2015).…”

“…Very recently, Sarma et al reported an unprecedented cisbimetallic complex of dinaphthoporphycene 6d, namely [Pd 2 (μ-6d)(μ-OAc) 2 ] 9 (Figure 3), wherein two palladium atoms coordinate to the core nitrogens of the macrocycle on the same side. 45 They are closely held together (Pd−Pd, 2.67 Å) by two bridging acetate ligands, exhibiting significant metal−metal bonding interactions (bond order 0.18 evaluated by NBO analysis). The importance of this outcome could be gauged from the fact that this type of complexation mode had been neither sought-after (including computational studies) nor proposed in the literature.…”
