(γ, 2e) photo-double ionization of N2molecules for equal energy sharing

Abstract: We have determined the multiply differential cross sections (MDCS) of the vertical photo-double ionization of diatomic nitrogen with coincidence detection of the ejected electrons, for fixed and random orientations of the internuclear axis, using the correlated product of two two-centre continuum Coulomb functions for the description of the two ejected electrons, which satisfies the exact asymptotic conditions. To verify our procedure, we have applied it to the photo-double ionization of diatomic hydrogen for … Show more

“…Following the detailed investigations of small diatomic molecules in the past as, for example, H 2 [12][13][14], N 2 [5,15,16], CO [17], and O 2 [18][19][20], attention has been turned to more complex systems such as CO 2 [21][22][23][24], H 2 O [25,26], CH 4 [27,28], and C 2 H 2 and C 2 H 4 [29]. A polyatomic molecule can additionally disperse energy between its constituents at conical intersections on the potential energy surfaces (PESs), undergo conformation changes (such as isomerization or twisting), and its fragments can be electronically and vibrationally excited (see, for example, [29][30][31][32][33]).…”

“…The theoretical procedure that we apply in the determination of the MDCS of the e , 2 ( ) g PDI of CO 2 is quite similar to that described in [1] for the N 2 molecule. The main difference here is that in the final state, the residual CO 2 2+ dication, whose electronic configuration is given by , whose fundamental state is a singlet state.…”
