γ-Oryzanol and tocopherol contents in residues of rice bran oil refining

Abstract: Rice bran oil (RBO) contains significant amounts of the natural antioxidants γ-oryzanol and tocopherols, which are lost to a large degree during oil refining. This results in a number of industrial residues with high contents of these phytochemicals. With the aim of supporting the development of profitable industrial procedures for γ-oryzanol and tocopherol recovery, the contents of these phytochemicals in all the residues produced during RBO refining were evaluated. The samples included residues from the degu… Show more

“…The concentration of γ-oryzanol in refined RBO is just 2% of its initial value in crude RBO. 44,55 The loss of γ-oryzanol components during neutralization was also reported by Krishna and colleagues. 56 They explained that γ-oryzanol components are probably more soluble in an alkaline medium, or may react and precipitate during neutralization; as a consequence, the polar free ferulic acid is dragged along with the sediment.…”

“…Oryzanol is ester compound of dica erl uref and loict or oceoiceiiil u rtct . Oryzanol around 2% can be found in rice bran and nowadays some group of researches has investigated how to extract this compound from different types of rice [4], [5]. Oryzanol is famous in form of cosmetic ingredient, which can increase moisture for skin [6].…”
