New hybrid materials based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with a nonstoichiometric tungsten carbide coating (WC_1 –_ x /MWCNTs) were synthesized by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition with tungsten hexacarbonyl used as a precursor. The mass ratio of precursors was varied to obtain nonstoichiometric tungsten carbide coatings of different morphologies ranging from spatially separated nanoparticles to a uniform ~300-nm-thick coating with a granular structure.
