Abstract

The purpose of the study is to characterize the features of changes in the information competence of future educators under the pressure of digitization. Acknowledging the scientific contributions of leading scholars, it is noted that several theories and concepts regarding how information competence has changed under the influence of digitization remain not fully explored, which has motivated the selection of this theme and its contemporary relevance. It has been proven that information competence is the ability to effectively identify, retrieve, and utilize information. This type of competence includes not only the technical skills to use digital tools but also critical thinking to assess the quality of information. It combines cognitive skills with technical literacy, making it a distinct and multifaceted competence. Recent years have seen significant changes in the information competence of future educators due to rapid digitization of society. This change is caused by the integration of digital technologies into the educational process, which requires teachers not only to adapt to new teaching tools but also to changes in the ways information is consumed and disseminated. It has been established that under such conditions, the traditional role of the educator as the sole source of knowledge has evolved. Modern educators must skillfully navigate and guide students through a vast digital environment of resources. They need to be adept at using digital tools, distinguishing reliable sources from unreliable ones, and developing critical thinking skills in a digital context. The digital transformation of the skill set required of future educators highlights the dynamic nature of information competence. It is no longer sufficient to simply possess foundational knowledge; they must also be capable of continuous learning and adaptation to remain relevant and effective in their roles. As digitization deepens, the information competence of educators becomes crucial not only for their professional development but also for the younger generation.
