Comparison of circadian rhythms of plant leaf temperature and dew point makes it possible to identify time intervals of dew falls. Using the dragon tree (Dracaena draco L.) as an example, it was shown that under arid conditions a CAM plant is able to condense and absorb up to ½ liter of water from 1 m2 of leaf surface cooled below the dew point during the night. It is assumed that the decrease in leaf temperature is associated with the conjugated action of two factors, thermal radiation and transpiration cooling. During the experiments, data were obtained indicating the existence of a special period at the beginning of daylight hours, when the temperature of the leaf surface drops by 5-10°C below the dew point. The coincidence of the maximum air temperature and the minimum temperature of the leaves allows us to consider the evaporation of dew from the surface of the leaves as the most likely cause of the strong cooling of the leaves and the precipitation of a large amount of dew in the morning. Using the entire chilled leaf surface to condense atmospheric moisture and absorb the fallen dew with the help of stomata open at night and water-absorbing tissues in the axils of the leaves is a striking adaptation to the conditions of a lack of water resources, including morphological, anatomical and physiological adaptations.

Bog blueberry berries are a source material for food and pharmaceutical industries. However, industrial harvesting of bog blueberry is hardly carried out as plants grow in hard-to-access areas and safekeeping of berries is low during transportation to the processing plants.Special-purpose plantations of bog blueberry at the processing plants may solve the problem. To do this would require planting material noted for a high content of biologically active substances. Central Siberian Botanical Garden is a leading center of introduction and breeding of blueberry in Russia.In this connection, biochemical study of dry substance, ascorbic acid, sugars, acids, anthocyans, catechins, pectins and protopectins of berries of promising bog blueberry forms was conducted in the forest-steppe zone of West Siberia in 2011–2015.The results of research showed a wide range of variability of chemical characters due to individual peculiarities of bog blueberry forms and weather conditions in various years. Protopectins, catechins and pectins exhibited the greatest interannual distinctions.Bog blueberry samples with the greatest content of biologically active substances which can be recommended as planting material for creation of production plantations were revealed.

Study of Properties of "Water–Anionic SAA–Tincture of Blueberry Fruit" System

This study is dedicated to the development of a new shampoo based on plant raw material using water tinctures of high-quality blueberry fruit Vaccinium corymbosum L. We used blueberry fruit of Bluecrop sort, the choice of this variety is based on its popularity and wide spread in the Republic of Belarus. This paper introduces a method of obtaining the tincture of blueberry fruit: the size of crushed raw material is 0.3--1.0 mm; the raw material : extractant ratio is 1 : 10; the extractant is drinking-water; the infusion time is 1 day. We analyzed the complex of biologically active substances in the tincture, contained in it, such as anthocyanins, tannins, carbohydrates, flavonoids. To choose the concentration of anionic SAA, i.e., water solution of sodium laureth sulfate, its foam forming properties in a concentration range of 0.01--5.00 % (ln c from --4.6 to 1.6) were previously determined. It was established that optimal concentration of SAA which provides foam forming properties on the required level for hygienic detergents is 0.02%. The effect of the tincture of blueberry fruit on the properties of water solutions that contain SAA was also investigated. Findings of research show that to meet the requirements for hygienic detergents, which means that the foam number of shampoo should be at least 100 mm, and foam stability should be not less than 80 %, the concentration of the tincture of high-quality blueberry fruit in solution of sodium laureth sulfate should be no more than 10 %.
