The research is devoted to the representation of the experience in creation of The Encyclopedia of Ukraine as a fundamental work of encyclopedic literature and at the same time as a significant part of the national heritage of culture. This book presents archival documents that describe the functioning of editorial board of The Encyclopedia of Ukraine during 1948–1985. In addition, the Encyclopedia of Ukraine is investigated as a stage in history of the encyclopedic-and-publishing activity in Ukraine; it is characterized as an object and a source for scientific studies.

The monograph deals with the actual issues of encyclopedia science in Ukraine, in particular, such as the typology of encyclopedias, as well as their functional and genre-and-style features. Encyclopedias as a genre of reference literature in the study is considered. The functions of encyclopedias are highlighted, typological features are showed, classifications of encyclopedic books are analyzed, the attributes of the style of encyclopedic articles and encyclopedias are characterized.

The monograph is devoted to issues of the digital encyclopedic practice in view of experience of contemporary socio-humanities. This book presents the history of the emergence and spread of electronic encyclopedias in Ukraine and worldwide, clarifies their features, traces the correlations of electronic and paper encyclopedias. A special place in the monograph is given to the common description of the Internet version of the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine as well as current national online encyclopedias abroad.
