肯尼亚哺乳动物名录

Abstract: Kenya has a rich mammalian fauna. We reviewed recently published books and papers including the six volumes of Mammals of Africa to develop an up-to-date annotated checklist of all mammals recorded from Kenya. A total of 390 species have been identified in the country, including 106 species of rodents, 104 species of bats, 63 species of even-toed ungulates (including whales and dolphins), 36 species of insectivores and carnivores, 19 species of primates, five species of elephant shrews, four species of hyraxes… Show more

“…Bat biodiversity follows a typical latitudinal trend, with nearly 80% of species concentrated in the tropics ( Willig et al 2003 ). More than 300 bat species have been described on the African continent ( Mammal Diversity Database 2022 ), of which 104 species have been recorded in Kenya ( Musila et al 2019 ). Despite Kenya’s position as supporting the richest East African bat fauna ( Patterson and Webala 2012 ), the diversity of nycteribiid bat flies associated with this rich bat fauna remains mostly unexplored.…”

“…The NONETHFLAVO members are among the most abundant small mammal fauna in forests of the Eastern Afromontane biodiversity hotspot south of the Ethiopian Highlands, including the Kenya Highlands, Albertine Rift montane forests, Tanzanian Highlands, and the Southern Rift montane forests [ 5 , 7 , 11 , 15 , 22 , 34 – 36 ]. As such, they are a key ecological component in these biodiversity hotspots, serving both as prey to raptors and small carnivores and as predators of invertebrates [ 11 , 37 ].…”
