Abstract:Macrophages (MΦs) produce cytokines and control inflammatory responses. The production of cytokines by MΦs is regulated by various factors, including amino acids. The aim of this study was to elucidate the role of serine, a nonessential amino acid, in the production of cytokines. We first showed that cellular content of serine in MΦs was significantly decreased when cultured without serine, and this result indicates that MΦs are dependent on the serine present in extracellular spaces. We next showed that MΦs e… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
