𝘚𝘱𝘰𝘥𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘥𝘢 (J. E. Smith, 1797) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Control and Productive Performance of Bt Maize Genotypes

Abstract: The purpose of this work was to evaluate the yield performance of Bt maize hybrids under field conditions with damage of the Spodoptera frugiperda in a completely randomized blocks design, under a factorial scheme, with four replications. Six treatments (five Bt maize hybrids and one non-Bt hybrid) were evaluated, with and without control of the S. frugiperda. In the evaluations of number of larvae and average damage scores on maize plants there was a lower incidence and lower damage of larvae on the genotypes… Show more

“…[72][73][74] These cause high levels of mortality in susceptible and heterozygous larvae, even when initially fed with non-Bt corn for a period of 10 days, 65 and have a high effectiveness in the field. 37 Studies that aim to understand larval movement between plants and the interactions with other trophic levels, 22,26 such as other pest species 75 and Bt plant physiology, 76 are necessary to predict the consequences on resistance evolution. This should allow more informed recommendations for the intercropping of ruzigrass with Bt or non-Bt corn.…”

“…30 In Brazil and other countries of the American continent, the existence of FAW population that is resistant to Bt toxins, such as Cry1Ab, 31 Cry1F, 32,33 and Cry2Ab2, 34,35 has already been documented. For the time being, the protein Vip3Aa20 remains effective in controlling this pest under field conditions, 36,37 but it urgently needs to be conserved through good management practices. Thus, resistance management strategies to guarantee greater longevity of agents that remain effective to control the pest are extremely important.…”

“…This crop is susceptible to climatic fluctuations and Paulo Henrique Baêta Nogueira de Carvalho et al the attack of diseases and pests, causing high economic impact (Dos Santos et al, 2020). Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), the main pest of maize in Brazil, feeds on a wide variety of plants, such as cotton, rice, forages, and soybeans, among others (Scoton et al, 2020). The control of S. frugiperda has been carried out mainly with the excessive use of insecticides, which select resistant individuals of this insect in the field (Omoto et al, 2016).…”
