Conclusions: MRI detected interplaque hemorrhage (IPH) in thin or ruptured fibrous caps is not related to the presence of old and recent cortical and sub-cortical infracts ipsilateral to a symptomatic internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis of 30%-69%.Summary: It is clear patients with symptomatic 70%-90% ICA stenosis receive the most benefit from carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Therefore, stenosis is the primary feature of the plaque upon which clinical decisions are based. However, more and more research demonstrates that atherosclerotic plaque components may also have a role in risk assessment of patients with carotid artery stenosis. MRI studies have suggested a collation between certain components of carotid artery plaques and the presence of cerebral infracts on MRI and clinical events during follow up (Zaho H et al, Eur
During transport in the cockpit of a single-engine fixed-wing aircraft, the tested ICDs did not show any signs of being affected by electromagnetic fields originating from the avionics of the aircraft. This current study indicates that EMI is not a potential safety issue for transportation of passengers with an ICD implanted in a single-engine fixed-wing aircraft.de Rotte AAJ, van der Kemp P, Mundy PA, Rienks R, de Rotte AA. We report new information on the presence of \g=a\-melanotropin(\g=a\-MSH)-likeimmunoreactivity in the peripheral circulation of the adult human. Pooled blood from 20 patients with non-endocrine diseases was subjected to a Sep-pak pre-purification followed by a high pressure liquid chromatographic (HPLC) fractionation. The eluate from the HPLC column was analyzed by a radioimmunoassay (RIA) specific for the C-terminal part of the \g=a\-MSHmolecule. From this it appeared that \g=a\-MSHwas the major \g=a\-MSH-likeimmunoreactive peptide present in human blood with a level of 2\p=n-\5 pg/ml. This level is similar to the one determined by direct measurements in Sep-pak pre-purified human plasma (median 2.0 pg/ml, n = 11). Des-acetyl \g=a\-MSH was present in human blood in only a minor quantity. We discuss this finding in view of earlier reports on \g=a\-MSH-like immunoreactivity in human pituitary tissue.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
