The following investigation was undertaken at the request of the War Office Committee on Antityphoid Inoculation, to ascertain the nature and degree of the changes that occur in the blood after inoculation, and to determine the extent to which these changes are influenced by differences in the dosage of the vaccine.

'Smm of the medical problems of the war, though of much-scientific interest, are less urgent than others, and may well await the leisured study which will without doubt be given to them after its conclusion, but others which are more urgent appear to call for at least a partial attempt to reach agreement before the campaign grows older. Prominent among these appears to us the subject of the specific treatment of tetanus, upon which there exist wide differences of view, both as to the usefulness of antitoxin at all and,
