Paraffin deposition in the production tubing of wells in the Norman Wells field has been an ongoing operational problem. Although many solutions are possible a passive thermal solution is most desirable. Using a wellbore thermal simulator, it was predicted that vacuum insulated tubing could raise the flowing tubing temperature at the wellhead above the cloud point of the crude oil. A string of vacuum insulated tubing was installed and has performed as predicted by the thermal simulation model.
