The AdvancedNeutronSource is an experimental facility being developedby Oak RidgeNationalLaboratory. As a new nuclearfissionresearchreactorof unprecedentedflux, the AdvancedNeutron SourceReactorwill providethe most intense steady-statebeamsof neutronsin the world. The high heat fluxes generatedin the reactor[303 MW(t)with an averagepowerdensity of 4.5 MW/L]will be accommodatedby a flowof heavywater throughthe core at highvelocities. In supportof this experimental and analyticaleffort, a reliable, highlyaccurate, and uniformsource of thermodynamicand transportpropertycorrelationsfor saturated light and heavywaterwere developed. In orderto attain high accuracyin the correlations, the rangeof thesecorrelationswas limitedto the proposedAdvancedNeutron SourceReactor's nominaloperatingconditions. The temperatureand corresponding saturationpressurerangesused for fightwaterwere 20-300"C and 0.0025-8.5 MPa, respectively, while those for heavywaterwere S0-2S0°C and0.012-3.9 MPa. Deviationsbetween the correlation predictionsand data fromthe varioussourcesdid not exc_eed1.0%. Lightwater vapordensitywas the only exception, with an error of 1.76%.The physicalpropertypackageconsistsof analytical correlations,SAS codes, and FORTRANsubroutinesincorporating these correlations,as well as an interactive, easy-to-useprogram entitled QuikProp.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
