Understandingthe nature and formation of unconformities a//ows for better interpretations of the sediment architecture within a basin and, hence, a more accurate play and reservoir evaluation. Sequence stratigraphy assumes that 1) relative sea-level controls the generation of sequences and unconformities to the exclusion of all other mechanisms, and 2) all unconformities on seismic profiles are unconformities in the rock record.Studies of the geometry of carbonate and siliciclastic she/ves from seismic profi/es showed that unconformities can form as the resu/t of changes in the geometry of sediment dispersal systems and may be independent of sea-level. In addition, unconformities on seismic records may represent rapid transitions when studied in outcrop. Seismic modelling of carbonate platforms showed that, when using typica/ industria/ frequencies, there are apparent truncations of the margin and significant basinward shifts in the point of on/sp. The low resolution of the seismic tool also results in apparent pinchouts and pseudo-unconformities.
(Unconformities on seismic profiles need not correspond to unconformities in the Iithological record. The seismic modelling of outcrops ultimately provides a means forReferences and figures at end of paper.evacuating the accuracy of unconformity interpretations based solely on seismic response. New constraints in hte interpretation of unconformity geometry wil/ lead not only to more acurate p/ay evacuations but possib/y a/so to revision of the "Vail" sea-level curve which is based /arge/y on the interpretation of unconformity geometries from industrial seismic profiles.
We introduce the Language-Independent Visualization Environment (LIVE) as a system for the visualization and manipulation of data structures and the computer programs that create and operate on them. LIVE interprets arbitrary programs containing arbitrary data structure definitions, showing diagrammatically the data that the process generates. It is language-independent in that a single program can be visualized in the syntax of multiple languages. LIVE is interactive in that not only does it show the effects of statements immediately as they occur at runtime, but it also generates new program source code automatically when the user manipulates the data on the screen. We anticipate that this tool will be most useful in a pedagogical setting such as a CS2 or data structures course, particularly with the introduction of pointers and linked structures.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
