In subcutaneous human tissue of obese and non obese subjects glucose uptake and incorporation of g1ucos~I)4C into CO2 were measured after incubation in a medium containing glucose. Basal glucose uptake was not correlated to age and body weight and was not changed in obese subjects. Insulin caused a significant increase of glucose uptake and a less marked increase of glucose oxydation. There was a lin~ ar relationship between the percentual increase of glucose uptake and the log of insulin dose. The maximal effective insulin concentration was 1000 pE/mi, higher doses did not cause further increase of glucose uptake.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
