A tangential jet model describing the high speed turbine impeller stream in agitated baflled vessels is critically reviewed. The application of the swirling radial jet model is treated in detail. This application means the replacement of a radially discharging impeller by an equivalent circumference-point-source of momentum flux with definite parameters (location, radius, direction and momentum flux rate of outflow). These parameters appearing in the flow field description have clear physical meaning and are approximated by mixing parameters. Hence, a radial impeller geometry is characterized by the introduced parameters with respect to the generated jet flow. A good agreement was found between the theoretical and the experimental data of this work and of other investigators.
