This research intended to develop the mathematics learning device with Project Based Learning which based on Learning Community and presents the effects of developing problem solving on project-based learning by providing different cases secondary level students (SMK) (n = 84). The purpose of this article is to understand clearly and deeply how the learning methodology can influence the process and learning outcomes. Project based learning by solving different problems is possible to develop creative ideas while increasing highly developed skills. The fact shows that their average of problem solving skill is still relatively low. Therefore, in this study, we will apply project-based learning to improve their problem solving. This type of research is a mixed method, which combines quantitative and qualitative research. The quantitative method is used to analyze student learning outcomes, while the qualitative method is used to analyze students’ mathematical problem solving. The Respondents in this study consist of three classes, namely two experimental class of 56 students and a control class of 28 students. The research shows that pre-test result of both classes indicates that the three classes are homogeneous. While the post-test result shows that the average of the three classes is significantly different. The inferential statistic result of independent sample t-test of students learning outcomes post-test shows that the sig (2-tailed) is 0.00 (p ≤ 0,05), thus it is significant. Furthermore, Due to the significance value is less than 0.05, it means that H0 is rejected; H1 is received. Therefore, the learning outcomes of students’ problem solving abilities in the experimental class are better than the control class.
This research was intended to develop mathematics learning tools on Statistics material on the seventh grade of junior high school through Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics based on Lesson Study for Learning Community and its effect on the students’ creative thinking ability. The method used was the mixed-methods combining qualitative and quantitative researches. Thiagarajan model as the developmental research was taken as the qualitative one. This research consisted of three classes; two experimental classes and one control class. The experimental design used was non-equivalent control group design. In normality test, the data obtained were normally distributed and the data were proved homogeneous based on the homogeneity test, so that it was necessary to do parametric data analysis by using One-Way ANOVA analysis. Based on the results of this research, the conclusions were summed up into: (1) The development of learning tools were categorized to valid, effective and practical, (2) The application of LSLC-based STEM had a significant effect on the students’ creative thinking ability which was indicated by a significance value of 0.000 (p<0,05).
This research aimed to develop the instruments of Mathematics instructional by using caring community-based learning cycle 5E on “Matrix Operations” Learning Material for the eleventh grade students of senior high school as well as to know its effect on the student’s mathematical communication skill. The research method used in this study can be considered as a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative methods are used to obtain data related to the results of the development of learning tools and quantitative methods are used for statistical analysis. The research subjects were the students of SMAN 1 Tegaldlimo, Banyuwangi Regency, from which three classes were chosen as the research samples, class XI MIPA 4 as the control class and class XI MIPA 5 as the first experimental class and class XI MIPA 2 as the second experimental class. Mathematical communication skill was measured by using the essay test. In the normality test, the data obtained were normally distributed and the data were homogeneous based on the homogeneity test, so that it was necessary to do the parametric data analysis by using One-Way ANOVA analysis. The results of the research showed that: (1) the instructional instrument resulted was valid, the implementation of the instructional instrument was practical and effective; (2) the significance value (2-tailed) was 0.000 (p < 0.0-5), which indicated that the application of learning by using caring community-based learning cycle 5E had a significant effect on the student’s mathematical communication skill.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
