Some remarks on the stereochemistry of the trienoic systems of vitamin-D and related compounds 2 )A study of the literature data published up to 1954 3 ) showed that at that time the structural and stereochemical details of the provitamins-D and the corresponding lumisterols had #been established conclusively. However, in the case of the tachysterols, tshe previtamins-D and the vitamins-D the configurational and conformational relationships still formed a matter for discussion, whereas with the previtamins-D, discovered and identified by the beautiful studies of Velluz and his co-workers *), even the position of the conjugated double bond system was as yet uncertain.
