An electrolytic production technique based on the electrochemical reduction of zirconium oxide was developed. Various factors affecting the reduction process were investigated. These factors include the cell voltage, the electrolysis time, the composition of the molten bath, and the temperature of the bath. The novel cell design succeeded in the production of zirconium powder or sponge with less than 400 ppm oxygen in a semicontinuous manner.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
