Maximal acid output and insulin tests were carried out in a series of 56 consecutive patients who had either a truncal or a bilateral selective vagotomy and drainage operation.
The results of the insulin tests are discussed in the light of criteria established by several authors. The postoperative reduction in basal and maximal acid output was considered, and also the risk of recurrent ulceration.
A comparison of the test results of the two types of vagotomy was made, and no significant difference was found.
