We describe some methods for evaluating error probabilities of infinite signal constellations and requiring only a finite number of terms. These methods are applicable, for example, t o convolutional codes decoded with a finite-depth Viterbi algorithm and to signal constellations carved from lattices. Coded modulations based on lattices and convolutional or block codes can also be dealt with.As an example of application, we analyze a variablerate 3-stage coded modulation encoder/decoder, which is being built and is based on a combination of convolutional codes with a single-parity-check block code.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
