Many small coils wound with Bismuth based conductor have been manufactured with t h e W i n d a n d React technique in solenoid shape. T h e construction of t h e coils has been integrated with an experimental investigation of t h e effect of curvature radius on t h e critical current and of t h e influence of different insulation materials (braids of quartz and of different ceramics) on t h e characteristics of t h e conductor a n d of t h e winding. A variety o f conductor lay-out have been tested: Bi-2212/Ag with mono and multifilament design, pure silver or Ag-alloy as stabilizer. T h e influence of different heat treatment conditions -temperature, r a m p rate a n d atmosphere-on t h e conductor a n d on t h e coils performances is presented. T h e performances of t h e coils, wound with conductor length from 2 to 36 m, are compared with respect to t h e short sample critical currents at 4.2 and 77 K and t h e measurements of t h e irreversibility lines are discussed. I n few coils I, is 50% of t h e short sample value, reaching 80% in t h e best case.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
