A new model of 125I seed source, named OcuProsta seed, was designed and fabricated by Radiopharmaceuticals Division of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre for ophthalmic and interstitial applications. AAPM TG 43 recommended dosimetry parameters for this seed source were determined experimentally using TLD as well as by Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. Measured and MC calculated values of the dose rate constant (DRC) are 0.95 +/- 0.065 cGyh(-1)U(-1) and 0.972 +/- 0.005 cGyh(-1)U(-1), respectively. The mean of measured and calculated DRC (lambda = 0.96 cGyh(-1)U(-1)) was recommended for the clinical dosimetry of OcuProsta seed. Measured and MC calculated radial dose function, g(r), anisotropy function, F(r,theta), anisotropy factor and anisotropy constants are also found to be in good agreement to each other. Dosimetry parameters of OcuProsta seed were compared with the published values of similar in-design 125I seed sources. The DRC of BARC OcuProsta seed is very close to Amersham 6711 seed and is also comparable to the DRC of Best model 2301, Syncor PharmaSeed and Isotron selectSeed within the uncertainty of measurement/calculation. The g(r) of OcuProsta seed shows a difference of up to 10% in comparison to the g(r) values of the similar in-design seed sources. The values of anisotropy function of OcuProsta are 7-13% different from the anisotropy function of Amersham 6711 and Syncor PharmaSeed. The anisotropy constant of OcuProsta is close to Amersham 6711 seed while it is about 9% smaller than the anisotropy constant of Best model 2301 and Synchor PharmaSeed.
Garole sheep is very popular for its biannual lambing and disease resistance characters. To evaluate some selected serum electrolytes (Na, K and P) ions in apparently healthy Garole sheep at Sundarban region under Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira district, blood samples were collected from 20 Garole sheep (8 males and 12 females) of aged about 6-48 months containing male lambs, rams, female lambs, pregnant ewes and lactating ewes according to the age, sex and physiologic status. Serum was separated and used for biochemical analysis for the measurement of target serum electrolytes. The results of the range and mean ± standard error (SE) of serum electrolytes are as follows: sodium 280-400 ppm and 342.96±7.19 ppm, potassium 30-55 ppm and 34.37 ± 0.72 ppm and phosphorus 40-90 ppm and 70.98 ±1.76 ppm respectively. The significant differences (P<0.05) between males and females in serum ions levels was recorded. It can be concluded that Na, K and P ion level in serum was higher in male than female and significant differences in ion level varies according to physiologic status of female Garole sheep.

Background: In open grazing dairy cattle farming, it is critical to identify and monitor health status and disease incidence. Testing of physiological parameters is essential to monitoring the health status of dairy herds. Therefore, the present study was carried out to evaluate the comparative status of serum chemistry and corresponding milk chemistry in cattle reared in open grazing system.
Methods: The research was conducted in 10 clinically healthy cows reared under open grazing system from different commercial farms of Baghabari in Sirajganj district. Blood samples were collected from individual animal through the jugular vein puncture. Corresponding milk samples were collected directly from teat during the morning milking time. Blood and milk samples were brought to the laboratory in an ice cooled sample transportation box. Total serum protein, glucose, cholesterol, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, chloride concentration and corresponding milk protein, lactose, cholesterol, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, chloride concentration were measured by using standard analytical techniques.
Results: Results showed that, there was a partially positive correlation among blood glucose and milk lactose (0.698), blood cholesterol and milk cholesterol (0.709), blood sodium and milk sodium (0.657). In addition, a strongly positive correlation was found between blood calcium and milk calcium (0.905). However, partially negative correlation between blood phosphorus and milk phosphorus (-0.688) was observed.
Conclusions: The study shows the prospect of effectively using comparative analysis of serum and corresponding milk constituents to construct a comprehensive model or technology for the betterment of dairy farming in Bangladesh.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
