A model for predicting the time-dependent vertical thermal structure of lakes is presented. Radiative heating with depth, mixing induced by the surface wave field, and turbulent energy exchanges arc included as lake-averaged processes. The model was designed to be applicable to a wide range of lake sizes. Comparison of predictions with horizontally averaged observations from Lake Ontario during IFYGL and unaveraged (local) observations from Llyn Cwellyn, Wales, show good agreement.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
