Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to my supervisor Prof. Boon Chirn Chye for his continuous support and advice throughout my studies and the writing of this thesis. I would also like to thank Prof. Yeo Kiat Seng, for his supervision in the EHS-II project, as well as Prof. Siek Liter for useful, and lighthearted, discussions, and Prof. Zhang Yue Ping, my Master's Degree supervisor. I also must acknowledge the help of friends and colleagues, particularly AN, Vamshi, and Alper, and the support from Mr. Lim Wei Meng, and Mr. T.S. Wong in all of my fabrication and measurements. For loan of their equipment and help in the measurement I would like to thank Mike from Rohde and Schwarz and Yong Wee from Agilent. My gratitude also extends to the lab technicians of IC Design I, II, and CICS. I must also thank Mediatek Inc. for supporting the cost of several of the fabrications. Of course, this work would not have been possible without the love and support-and good home cooking-of my wife and colleague, Mrs. Luo Sha. I also thank my mother, brothers and sisters for molding me into the person I am today. Lastly, I would also like to thank my father, Prof. Do Manh Anh, whose 28 years of guidance have-despite my failings-brought me to this point.
I have come a long way in my research towards this thesis since I picked up my first RFIC design book, and I could not have reached this stage without the generous support of several mentors and friends. First and foremost I would like to acknowledge the help of my two principal mentors, my supervisor, Prof. Zhang Yue Ping and my father, Prof. Do Manh Anh. Both professors provided useful advice and insights drawn from their own experience in the communications area. Among my mentors I would also like to thank Prof. Ma Jian Guo for enduring the brunt of the endless and often repetitive questions I posed. I cannot overemphasize my thanks to Ms. (soon to be Dr.) Jia Lin who solved countless problems which arose throughout my research and allowed me to use her VCO design in my project. Finally, I would like to thank Mr. (soon to be Dr.) Li Qiang, the technical staff of CICS, IC Design I and IC Design II, and my original research group for help during the project.
