In the present study, colostrum quality in Holstein cows and their genetic parameters for passive transfer traits in calves were estimated. In order to get an estimation, colostrum Brix (ColBrix), colostrum immunoglobulin G (ColIgG) of Holstein cows, and serum total protein (STP) and serum immunoglobulin G (SIgG) levels of the calves of selected cows raised in a private livestock company in Turkey were assessed. Variance components and genetic parameters were estimated by MTDFREML using a mixed model. The heritability for ColBrix, ColIgG, STP and SIgG was estimated to be 0.19 ± 0.07, 0.19 ± 0.07, 0.36 ± 0.10 and 0.34 ± 0.10, respectively. According to the results of bivariate analysis, genetic correlations between the traits varied between –0.98 and +0.98. There was a sufficient genetic variance for SIgG in the calves in the population and thus a significant genetic improvement may be achieved by selection in order to increase the passive transfer. It will be worthwhile to continue the efforts for genetic improvement studies which have the potential to reduce calf deaths in the future.
Günlük muayenelerde 6-8 MHz'lik multiple frekanslı prob taşıyan B Mode Real-time ultrasonografi kullanıldı. Grup I'e ovaryum üzerinde olgun bir korpus luteum (KL) ve dominant follikül (DF) belirlendiği siklusun herhangi bir gününde tek doz PGF2()(uygulandı. Grup II'ye östrtlS siklusunun 7. gününde 7 saat arayla iki doz PGF2()(enjeksiyonu yapıldı. Grup III' deki (kontrol grubu) inekler siklusun 17. gününden itibaren izlendi. Anahtar kelimeler: Gebelik oranları, östrus belirlenmesi, prostaglandin F2()(,senkronizasyon, sütçü ineklerThe effects of different doses of PGF2a administrations and estrous detection methods on pregnancy rates in cows Summary:The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different PGF2()(,regimens and estrous detection techniques on the pregnancy rates in cows. In the study, 45 healthy cows which had completed a postparturient 35 days-duration and showed at lcast one detectable estrous were used as the materia!. Cows were divided into 3 groups each consisting of 15 cows randomly. A 6-8 MI-/z. multiple frequence probe attached, B Mode Rea!-time ultrasonography was used. Group I, a single PGF2()( treatment, were done to the cows having a matllre corpus luteum and dominant fo IIicle at any time at the cycle. Contrary, two PGF2()(injeetions were made on day 7 of the estrous cycle with a 7 hours interva! in Group II. Group III (control group) only detections were made without any hormone trcatments from day i7 and on. Estrous detections were conducted with observation, electronic activity scaling instrumenls and RP/USG techniques in all groups. All estrous detected cows were artificially inseminated af ter i2 hours. Pregnancy esıimalİons were done with USG after 3 weeks and rectal palpation after 40 days. As a result, no significant differences .. in preovu laloric follicle diameters were observed between PG treated groups and con...
