Conservation on architecture plays very important role in shaping the identity or memory of a place as well as presenting its current context. There are must be three strategies consisting in conservation, those are: continuity, development, and usage. Continuity shows the establishment on the tradition for the sake of the continuity on the building identity in the present and future time. Development is a process of changing and adjusting toward the current of a building to gain the best condition. Usage is creating the use or giving the facility for the existance sustainability of old, present, and future building. Through the tracing on two architure cases, Masjid Sunan Ampel and Masjid Jami’ Malang, this paper aims to explore the character of architecture identity of mosque in Indonesia as an alternative of architecture sustainability which is relevant to Indonesian context, and to the development of technology as one of the instrument to build. The initial stage is exploring the architec of two mosques by using three conservation strategies as the reading tool. The next stage is doing an interpretaive analysis by comparing the finding character identity both mosques’ identity in dialogic way. The above study presents thetwo character of Indonesain mosques’ achitecture which includes technology in the building process. These characters have been becoming the starting planning strategy of mosque’s architecture which orientates to Indonesian context as well as creatively and innovatively.
Location of the design object located in Mojosari Mojokerto Regency, the selection of this location is based on many ducks and the area has a type of duck that has been known in Indonesia namely the duck Mojosari. In this area, there are problems with the environment caused by the pollution oflivestock waste in the region, especially the pollution of rivers that cross the area. Through the application of the ethical concept of waste on livestock planning and processing, duck is a container and a solution to develop the potential of ducks and provide solutions to the environmental problems that cause it. Application. The ethical concept of waste on this design object, as a solution for the development and handling of the problems in this region. The ethical concept of waste is implemented by adjusting the design needs with the environmental problems posed so that the design object optimizes livestock waste potential and environmental potential. Adjustment of needs and problems in this environment is intended as an ethical in object design.
PurposeThis study assesses the level of user importance to the building components of the Great Mosque of Mataram Kotagede Yogyakarta. The building components are the excellence and reliability of the mosque as a cultural and religious heritage in Indonesia.Design/methodology/approachThis research uses the qualitative and quantitative method. The qualitative method was conducted with contextual and conceptual studies on the comparative history of the Great Mosque of Mataram Kotagede. The quantitative method collected respondent perceptions using questionnaire.FindingsThe results generate ten building components that the highest important component is the aesthetics appearance of the building, while the least important component is the tomb area. Other components consist of the ornaments and building elements, outdoor circulation, indoor circulation, landscapes and parks, the wall surrounding the mosque and its area, mosque furniture, ablution facilities and lavatories, and access from the mosque area to surrounding areas.Originality/valueThe conservation maintains the sustainability of the physical and non-physical aspects of the mosque building. The physical aspects include aesthetics and reliability of building, while the non-physical aspects consist of historical values, heritage, symbols, socio-culture, local wisdom and religious tolerance.
