The principal objective of this study is to examine the relationship between human values and compassionate love of highly gifted students, and to make a comparison of the levels of compassionate love and human values between highly gifted students and their normal peers. One of the quantitative models, associative patterns, were implemented in this research. These are the models used for the determining of levels and the existence of change between two or more variables. With ease of accessibility, 8th grade normal students (N=200) from Balıkesir and Manisa (Turkey) and highly gifted students (N=200) of BILSEM were selected to gather data. 102 of the normal students were female, while 98 were male. 108 of the highly gifted students were female and 92 of them male. In this research, the Human Values Scale and Compassionate Love Scale were applied in order to determine levels of human values and compassionate love of the students. In conclusion, the highly gifted students were observed to have higher levels of human values than their normal peers, and to be more sensitive regarding love.
The main objective of this study is to compare the human values and psychological well-being of gifted/talented students with their peers with standard development. In addition, it aims to determine the level of relationship between human values and psychological well-being of gifted/talented students and whether human values were effective on psychological well-being. In this research, the relational survey model of quantitative research methods, which is a sub-type of the general survey model, is used. Assistance was received from 328 (59.3%) eighth-grade secondary school students in schools run by the Ministry of National Education in Izmir and Manisa and 225 (40.7%) gifted/talented students who were educated at BILSEM. To collect data, the Human Values Scale (PSI) and the Psychological Well-being Scale were used. Independent samples t-test for paired comparisons, Pearson’s product-moment correlation analysis for variable relationships and regression analysis to determine the predictive level were used. According to the t-test results, the human values and psychological well-being levels of gifted/talented students were higher than those of their peers with standard development and the gender variable did not play an effective role in the psychological well-being of gifted/talented students. As a result of the correlation analysis, a statistically significant correlation was found between human values and the psychological well-being of gifted/talented students. According to the regression analysis, human values significantly increased psychological well-being. Keywords: Giftedness/talent, human values, psychological well-being.
The main objective of this study is to examine the possible relationship between democratic values, problem-solving skills, and attitudes toward violence. In addition, it studies whether democratic values, problem solving skills and the tendency of attitudes toward violence differ according to different variables. Descriptive model was used in the research. The study group of the study consisted of a total of 326 students, 172 female and 154 male selected by appropriate sampling from three middle schools in Konya. It was used Basic Democratic Values Questionnaire, Problem Solving Inventory for Children, and the Adolescents' Attitudes Toward the Violence in the study. While the data were analyzing, t test, ANOVA test, Pearson Moment Product Correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis were used. When the data obtained from the research were examined, there was a significant difference in the level of attitudes toward violence according to the gender variables. There was a significant difference in problem solving skills and attitudes toward violence according to grade variables. Pearson's correlation analysis revealed statistically significant and negative relationship between democratic values, problem-solving skills, and attitudes toward violence. As a result of simple regression analysis, democratic values have predictive role on problem solving skills; it is seen that problem-solving skills are important variables in the tendency towards violence.
This study aims to identify relations among meaning of life, moral identity, and altruism levels of teacher candidates and whether they vary depending on some variables. Among the quantitative research methods, the relational screening model, a subtype of general screening model, was used in this study. The graduates and seniors studying in Izmir and Manisa provinces are the teacher candidates who participated in the study. The Meaning in Life Scale developed by Akın and Taş (2011) was used to measure perception of meaning in life, the Moral Identity Scale developed by Yılmaz and Yılmaz (2015) was used to measure moral identity, and the Altruism Scale developed by Ummet, Eksi and Otrar (2013) to measure the altruism levels of participants as data collection instruments. According to the results, the level of altruism of the female was found to be statistically and significantly higher than the male; however, there was no gender-based difference on the level of moral identity and the meaning of life. Furthermore, the meaning of life level of graduate teacher candidates was statistically and significantly higher than senior students; on the other hand, the altruism and moral identity levels of teacher candidates differed depending on their graduation status. Both statistical significance and positive correlation were found between teacher candidates' perception of meaning of life, moral identities and the altruism of level. Consequently, the moral identity and altruism levels of prospective teachers were found to be predictors of the meaning of life in a statistically significant manner.
