Abstract. Because they have not been developed for that particular context, in dance, the motivational climate has been measured with instruments from the field of sports. The purpose was to develop a psychometric instrument to measure the motivational climate created by the teacher. Two studies were conducted, both with an opportunity sample, which comprised of 366 dance students, 177 of them took part in the first stage, within an age range of 13 to 24 years old (M=19.33, SD=3.4). In the second stage, the sample was of 189 dance students, within an age range of 13 to 24 years old (M=19.41, SD=3.7). Content, item discrimination, correlations, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were all carried out. Five factors were obtained and explained the 64.25% of the variance. The internal reliability of the whole scale obtained a Cronbach Alpha of .95, and the subscales ranged between .75 and .95. The five subscale model (CFI=.959, RMSEA=.060), as well as the hierarchical model (CFI=.952, RMSEA=.065), provided appropriate and comparable psychometric properties. The Motivational Climate Scale-Dance proved to be a valid and reliable instrument, one of its kind due to the fact that, only the teacher actions with impact on the motivational climate are included.
