Perbedaan latar belakang sosial seperti budaya, etnis, ras, dan agama kerap menjadi pemicu konflik atar etnis, ras dan agama di dalam kelas. Usaha untuk meminimalisir konflik seperti di atas dapat diupayakan melalui berbagai macam segi. Salah satunya adalah melalui pengajaran di dalam kelas. Semangat persatuan dan persaudaraan yang terbangun dari lingkup kecil dunia pendidikan di dalam kelas diharapkan dapat tumbuh ke lingkup yang lebih luas: universitas, bangsa, dan negara. Representasi konflik di dalam kelas multikultur yang disebabkan oleh keanekaragaman latar belakang termuat dalam film yang diangkat dari kisah nyata: Freedom Writer. Metode-metode pembelajaran dalam film tersebut terbukti dapat mengatasi konflik yang disebabkan oleh perbedaan latar belakang seperti budaya, etnis, ras, dsb. Metode pembelajaran yang digunakan dalam film tersebut adalah metode Suggestopedia dan Participatory Approach. Suggestopedia memberikan solusi pendekatan yang efektif terhadap muridmurid sehingga mereka termotivasi untuk belajar dan percaya serta yakin akan kemampuan mereka. Participatory menawarkan pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan konteks kehidupan para murid. Kata kunci: metode pembelajaran, multikultural, Freedom Writer Latar Belakang Masalah Indonesia adalah negara yang memiliki tingkat keberagaman yang tinggi. Semboyan "Bhineka Tunggal Ika" merupakan bukti bahwa Indonesia memiliki penduduk yang berbeda-beda baik dalam segi etnis, budaya, adat, maupun agama. Menurut Soebandio (1983), Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara multikulturalis terbesar di dunia. Berbagai pluralitas yang ada di Indonesia terdiri dari keragaman kelas sosial, etnis dan ras, gender, anak berkebutuhan khusus, agama, bahasa, dan usia (http://chalimatoes.blogspot.co.id/2013/06/pluralitas-dan-konflik-etnik-dan-ras.html). Setiap individu mendapatkan pengaruh besar dari latar belakang sosial yang dialaminya. Perbedaan latar belakang yang dimiliki oleh setiap individu menyebabkan perbedaan sikap, perilaku dan pola pikir terhadap suatu masalah. Hal inilah yang dapat menimbulkan konflik antar individu yang memiliki latar belakang yang berbeda, seperti perbedaan etnis, ras, dan agama. Perbedaan latar belakang sosial seperti etnis, ras, dan agama kerap menjadi pemicu konflik atar etnis, ras dan agama. Konflik semacam ini pernah terjadi secara massive pada masa sebelum reformasi atau akhir pemerintahan orde baru yaitu tahun 1998 yaitu konflik antar etnis cina dan pribumi yang berujung pada perusakan rumahrumah etnis tertentu. This paper shows the cultural barriers in the higher education setting and advises that the university makes certain preparations to welcome inbound and outbound students of exchange program upon their arrival. Students have accepted resources primarily generated from the university to overcome these obstacles. Therefore, as revealed by this study, the university or college is better able to identify students' needs and provide appropriate campus resources and services when they have a deeper grasp of their academic issues. This research generally aims to identify the reading skills and interest of the semester 1 students of the English Department, Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa. The specific objective of the research is to formulate a procedure for using Google classroom as an alternative media for reading logs in reading subjects. The reading subject is chosen because reading is a compulsory subject and a prerequisite for the following courses. This research applied a descriptive-qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out using observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The research began with data collection regarding the students’ reading skills, interest, as well as the relevant facilities in the google classroom as reading logs in the reading subject. The data collected were then analyzed, linked, and developed according to the lecture activities in the reading subject. Interviews were conducted to strengthen and complement findings on how google classroom could be used as an alternative media for reading logs in reading subjects.
ABSTRAKPenelitian pada tugas akhir atau skripsi yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa menunjukkan bahwa beberapa mahasiswa telah menggunakan peta konsep, dan beberapa tidak menggunakan peta konsep. Oleh karena itu, penelitian tentang penggunaan peta konsep oleh mahasisawa ini menarik untuk dilakukan. Penelitian ini memiliki batasan yaitu hanya pada kripsi yang menggunakan peta konsep. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana mahasiswa mengembangkan peta konsep yang di buatnya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah gabungan antara penelitian kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Objek dari penelitian ini yaitu skripsi bidang sastra pada tahun akademik 2013/2014. Tehnik kuantitatif digunakan untuk mengkasifikasikan objek penelitian yang digunakan yaitu penelitian bidang sastra. Sedangkan tehnik kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis dan menjelaskan penemuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 16,39% dari 137 mahasiswa, menulis skripsi bidang sastra, dan 91,30% dari mahasiswa yg menulis bidang sastra menggunakan peta konsep. Peta konsep dapat diklasifikasikan menjadi dua jenis yaitu komprehensif dan parsial. Kata kunci: mahasiswa, peta konsep, skripsi, sastra. ABSTRACTA preliminary observation on the students' term papers of the English language education department of Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University showed that, in terms of using of concept maps, some were completed with ones and the others were not. Therefore, it was interesting to do a research on this issue. However, due to time limitation, this study focused on the term papers with concept maps and the objective of the research was to find out how students developed their concept maps. The research method was a mixed-method between quantitative and qualitative techniques. The objects of the research were the term papers on literature accomplished during the academic year 2013/2014. The quantitative technique was applied in classifying the objects according to the proportion of interest, while the qualitative technique was used to analyze the findings descriptively. The results of the research showed that 16.39% of 137 students writing term papers during the academic year analyzed literary works 91.30% of which used concept maps. The concept maps could be classified into two groups: comprehensive and partial.
<p align="center"><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>The Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world in early 2020 has caused impacts on various aspects of life, including the education system. Concerning this pandemic, the Indonesian government has issued policies to regulate the learning system so that it can continue running well. One of them is the existence of a distance learning policy or online learning for all levels of education. Learning activities are carried out from home online. Online learning is considered one of the best solutions during a pandemic. However, in practice, there were constraints faced by both students and teachers. The constraints that arouse in online lectures, especially in the Reading for Professional Context course were time, internet network, internet cost, and technological facilities. These obstacles have bad impacts on the discussion process and the comprehension process of the material.
