Background: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a pandemic that may complicate the active detection of Tuberculosis (TB) and increase the mortality rate. This pushes for more effective and efficient case finding to mitigate the possible growing number of TB mortality. Objective: The purpose of this research was to identify TB among workers and to analyze the correlation between human, environmental, behavioral, and economic factors with TB findings among workers during the COVID-19 period. Methods: This research employed a case-control method conducted from January to December 2020. In total, 120 employees were included in this research. The employees were divided into two groups, sixty workers were involved in the TB case group, and another sixty workers were in the control group. We reported TB patients from several Public Health Center (Puskesmas) in each regency of South Sumatera, Indonesia. Sputum testing was performed by the rapid molecular tests (GeneXpert) and Ziehl-Neelsen to confirm the diagnosis of TB infection. We performed a Chi-square analysis to analyze factors that can influence TB cases. Results: In comparison to the control group, we found the association of age, body mass index, occupation, and sun exposure to the incidence of active TB cases (p0.05).Conclusion: Since statistically significant differences between the two groups have been identified, the incidence of TB in workers might be affected by age, occupation, BMI, and exposure to sunlight. Associated significant variables can be integrated into the TB control program for better case-finding practice to recognize concealed burdens of TB that are overlooked due to COVID-19.
Background: There is still a limited number of studies related to overall survival in breast cancer patients in Indonesia. This study determines the overall survival and the factor which can affect the survival of stage III breast cancer patients. Methods: This study was a retrospective study. Patients first diagnosed with stage III breast cancer from January 1 to August 31, 2018, at DR. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang had been studied. The primary outcome of this study was overall survival. The sociodemographic, clinicopathology, and treatment factors were analyzed to identify the independent variables associated with overall survival using Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazard regression. Results: In this study, 78 samples were included. The 3-year overall survival for stage III breast cancer was 71%. In the bivariate analysis, several factors including older age (> 40) (HR = 2.795, 95% CI 1.223–6.387), higher stages for IIIB (HR = 7.155, 95% CI 0.960–53.334), and IIIC (HR = (HR = 33.450, 95% CI 3.013-371.354), history of not undergoing surgical intervention (HR = 3.999, 95% CI 1.684–9.495), and adjuvant chemotherapy (HR = 2.768, 95% CI 1.211–6.327) have been associated significantly to lower overall survival. Multivariate analysis showed IIIC breast cancer stage as an independent factor and had a significantly increased probability of mortality (HR = 14.677, 95% CI 1.268–169.948).Conclusions: The stage at diagnosis was the only significant predictor for the survival outcome, indicating that early diagnosis may need more attention.
Health istitha'ah is the health ability of the pilgrims physically and mentally with a measurable health assesment. It is essential for every citizen who will perform the hajj pilgrimage. The Indonesian Ministry of Health through the Non-Infectious Disease Integrated Service Post (Posbindu PTM) implements an early detection and prevention program for non-infectious diseases in sub-districts, schools or colleges, institutions or workplaces, and Hajj guidance groups (KBIH) especially for pilgrims. The department of public health and community medicine (IKM-IKK) of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University perform an education on the detection of risk factors for non-infectious diseases and physical fitness assesment of prospective pilgrims in the context of community service activities at KBIH Bisri Palembang. Examinations were done on 40 prospective pilgrims using the Rockport test method. The results of the examination showed that the 24 pilgrims had moderate fitness level (60%). The blood pressure test results showed that 9 pilgrims had hypertension (22%) and the nutritional status test showed that 20 pilgrims were overweight and obese (38.5%). In addition, there is an assesment for prospective hajj pilgrims in order to understanding risk factors for non-infectious diseases. The result shows that there is a significant increase in understanding about non-infectious diseases in the adaptation of new habits.
Hypertension is one of the comorbidities found in COVID-19 patients. The severity of COVID-19 in comorbid hypertension is important to prevent by controlling risk factors and conducting early detection. Community coverage for early detection is still low due to low awareness of the importance of prevention. The purpose of this activity is to increase public knowledge through the provision of counseling regarding the prevention of COVID-19. The target audience for community service activities in this activity is hypertension patients in the working area of the Merdeka Palembang Health Center. The number of targets for this activity is 25 people. The method of implementing this activity is with lectures and discussions. Conduct pretest and posttest to assess knowledge before and before counseling regarding prevention of COVID-19 in people with hypertension. The results of this activity are characteristics of respondents based on age, most of them are in late adulthood (36-45 years) as many as 13 people (52%). Most of them are male many as 15 people (60%), high school education level or equivalent as many as 22 people (88%) and, most of them work as private employees as many as 12 people (48%). The results of the statistical test using the Wilcoxon p-value = 0.000, which show that there are differences in public knowledge before and after counseling regarding the prevention of COVID-19.
