This research aimed to determine site specific NPK fertilizer rates combined with rice straw compost application for rice grown on the tidal lowland. This research was conducted in a greenhouse in Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatera in February until September 2017 using a factorial completely randomized design with two factors and three replications. The first factor was NPK fertilizer rate calculated based on the results of soil chemical analysis, consisting of five levels, namely 50% (D1), 75% (D2), 100% (D3), 125% (D4) and 150% (D5) of the site-specific fertilizer rate. The second factor was rice straw compost rate consisting of two levels, namely 5 Mg ha-1 (J1) and 10 Mg ha-1 (J2). The results showed that the application of 150% NPK rate and 10 Mg ha-1 rice straw compost resulted in the best effects on the rice growth grown on the tidal lowland. The application of those fertilizer doses produced the highest maximum number of tillers and productive tillers. In this regard the doses of NPK fertilizers that should be applied are 315 kg urea ha-1, 135 kg SP-36 ha-1 and 90 kg KCl ha-1.
High soil P sorption which result in low P availability for plants is one of important constraints in Ultisols. The objective of current research was to study the effect of coal fly ash-chicken manure mixture (FA-CM) on the changes in P sorption and availability in Ultisols. Two treatments -FA-CM mixture (w/w of 1:1) at the rate of 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 ton ha -1 , and P fertilization at the rate of 0, 87, 174, 261 and 348 kg P 2 O 5 ha -1 -were tested. These treatments were arranged according to Factorial Completely Random Design with three replicates. Results of current research showed that FA-CM and P rates and their interaction significantly affected the values of point of zero charge (PZC), pH and soil negative charges. FA-CM mixture as a soil ameliorant decreased P sorption but it increased available P in Ultisols by increasing both soil pH and negative charges. The application of FA-CM at 30 tons ha -1 and P at 174 kg P 2 O 5 ha -1 resulted in better increases in soil charges than any other combinations. However, the lowest P sorption (127.07 mg kg -1 ) and the highest available P (102.21 mg kg -1 ) was resulted in by the applications of 42.64 tons of FA-CM ha -1 and 261 kg P 2 O 5 ha -1 .
In the last decade, the problem that has occurred in the Yogyakarta Mataram irrigation channel is the occurrence of sedimentation in the channel. This has an impact on reducing the cross-sectional discharge capacity of the canal and resulting in the supply of irrigation discharge to agricultural areas to be not optimal, so that agricultural productivity in the Mataram Irrigation Area will also not be optimal. The sediment transport (bed load) that occurs in an open channel can be approached using the empirical equation, including the Einstein, Meyer - Peter Muller and Frijlink equations. Sediment transport events that occur in the channel are stated based on the magnitude of the flow shear stress which exceeds the critical shear stress of the sediment particles. The quantity of sediment transport in the channel is stated on the logarithmic curve of the relationship between the froude number (fr) to the sediment transports (qb). The Curve explains that the increase in the froude number (fr) that occurs on each section of the channel will be directly proportional to the increase in the quantity of transport sediment (qb). The largest sediment transport occurred at the site of the Gambang and Nambongan channel section with a prediction of sediment transport of 3.57 m3/day and 3.67 m3/day, respectively. Thus, the potential for sediment transport that will settle in the downstream area is 3.67 m3/day.
