Introduction: The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic affected the mental health of students. Students feel stressed and sad, anxious, frustrated, confused and do not know how to overcome their conditions. Depression occurs because of negative thinking about oneself and others, so special management is needed in the midst of a COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of the depression levels of students in the pandemic. Methods: The method in this study was a quantitative research with cross sectional approach. Descriptive analysis is used to provide a description of the level of depression that occurs in students. Data collection used the Beck Deperession Inventory II (BDI II), sampling used a total sample of 148 respondents (students with an average age of 18-20 years old). The process of collecting data is done by using the google form survey method. Results: Students experienced mild mood disorders (25.7%), severe depression (12.2%), low depression (8.1%), moderate depression (0,7%) and extreme (0.7%).Conclusion: Depression in the pandemic of COVID-19 requires special attention in management to prevent mental disorders.
Quality of statistical test bank items (Case study: Final exam instrument of statistics courses in Universitas Terbuka) AbstractThis study aims to determine the quality of final semester test items of economic statistics course that was developed by Universitas Terbuka (UT) as a basis for developing calibrated item banks using Item Response Theory. This research uses a quantitative descriptive approach. The researcher investigates the answer pattern of the final semester exam (UAS) in the economic statistics course during six periods of the final exams. The sample size in this study was 23334 students. The results of this study indicate that the final semester exam items of economic statistics courses developed by UT: (1) proved to construct valid, i.e. only measure one dominant factor, namely the ability of economic statistics; (2) has good reliability with empirical reliability coefficient values more than 0.70 (empirical reliability coefficient = 0.7335); (3) of the 140 items calibrated there are 108 items (25 items of good quality or without revision and 83 items of poor quality or need to be revised) that are worth keeping in the question bank, while 32 items of quality are not good; and (4) able to provide accurate information related to students' economic statistical abilities at a high level of ability (-1.3 to +4.0)
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacts students’ mental health. Most of them may experience depression. Due to restrictions and social distancing during the pandemic, counseling may not be applicable in detecting the problems. Therefore, an Islamic spiritual mindfulness-based application called DAHAGA is created in order to detect and reduce depression. It is believed that this innovative app could reduce mental health problems among students. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of DAHAGA on reducing depression among nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a comparison group pretest/posttest design conducted from May to June 2020. Seventy students were selected using convenience sampling, of which 35 were assigned in an experimental group and a comparison group. The validated Indonesian Version-Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) was used for data collection. Paired t-test and independent t-test were used for data analysis. Results: There was a significant effect of DAHAGA on depression (p < 0.001). The level of depression after intervention (mean 11.49, SD 4.49) was lower than it before the intervention (mean 17.20, SD 4.94). Additionally, there was a significant difference in depression level between the experimental and comparison groups after the intervention with a p-value of < 0.001. Conclusion: The DAHAGA is proven effective in reducing depression. Therefore, this study offers a new and innovative app that fits with the COVID-19 pandemic to help Muslim students maintain their health status. The findings also support Islamic spiritual mindfulness as a part of nursing interventions among psychiatric nurses to deal with mental health problems, especially depression.
